Overlays. Control Panels &
Membrane Switches

Overlays:

overlaysOverlays are typically used for identifying displays and switches on electronic controls. There are many types of substrates available, depending on the type of texture/finish desired, whether abrasion resistance is needed for display windows, etc. With UV ink technology, our solution possesses the capability to selectively texture the overlay when a combination of differently textured areas are required.

With both screen printing and digital printing in-house, the type of printing method used can vary from project to project. It can often depend on the color scheme, quantity needed, durability, wear ability and a number of other factors. We will work with your engineering team to optimize a design that is both robust and cost-effective.

Overlays can be supplied with or without pre-applied pressure sensitive adhesive. Both laser cutting and die cutting are available where features need to be cut out or voided.

Control Panels & Membrane Switches:

control-panelsOur vendor offers a number of options for companies that require control panels including direct screen printing on sheet metal housings for control identification. Clear or colored overlays in small or large formats for instrumentation legends, branding, etc, are available.

Membrane switches for robust sealed interface solutions are their specialty. A membrane switch is essentially a flexible circuit with an overlay on top. An overlay is basically a decal that lies on top of the membrane switch and can incorporate a number of visual elements, including touch buttons and titles, display windows, functions, etc. The buttons/switches can have metal domes inserted between the overlay and circuit to provide that “pop” for positive tactile feedback, and the buttons on the overlay itself can be embossed to give additional definition to interface areas.

Membrane switches and flexible circuits utilize conductive and dielectric inks to create a trace circuit with a low profile. They are often used in industrial environments where it is necessary to seal a user control interface from outside contaminants. Often they include a flexible tail/connector for plugging into a PCB that interfaces with instrumentation, etc..

Our solution’s technical ability insures that you will have accurate registration between your circuit traces and the overlay/interface. Additionally, they do 100% testing of their switch assemblies to assure the highest level of quality. And they stay up to date on the latest ASTM standards to make sure that they are current with new technologies in the marketplace.
